Plaincopy

FAQ

What exactly does Plaincopy remove?

Zero-width spaces, joiners and non-joiners, word joiners, byte order marks, soft hyphens, narrow and ordinary no-break spaces and other odd spaces, bidirectional marks, variation selectors, tag characters and a few control and filler characters. On request: em and en dashes, curly quotes, the ellipsis character and markdown marks.

Is a zero-width character a ChatGPT watermark?

Not an official one. OpenAI has not announced a text watermark. In April 2025 narrow no-break spaces were reported in some ChatGPT answers, and OpenAI called them a side effect of training. Hidden characters also come from web pages, PDFs, Word and chat apps.

Will cleaning stop AI detectors flagging my text?

No. Detectors score wording and sentence patterns. Removing invisible characters does not change that.

Are the emoji safe?

Yes by default. Joiners and variation selectors that belong to an emoji sequence are kept and shown as kept.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Cleaning, file processing and highlighting run in your browser. Our server only checks whether a subscription is active.

Does the Word clean keep my formatting?

Yes. Only the text inside the document is edited. Fonts, styles, tables, images, headers, footers and footnotes stay as they are.

Which files does Pro accept?

.docx, .txt and .md. Save older .doc files as .docx first.
